Storm Knocks Out Power To Thousands In Fairfield County

Thousands in Fairfield County have been left in the dark Thursday morning as thunderstorms rolled through the area.

More than 3,000 United Illuminating Company customers and 1,500 Eversource customers remained without power as of 9 a.m., with some Fairfield County municipalities taking the brunt of the storm.

In total, nearly 6,000 Connecticut residents reported outages overnight.

Bridgeport was hit the hardest, with 2,406 local residents reporting outages, as well as Westport (213 outages), Norwalk (101), Fairfield (42) and New Canaan (17). Greenwich, Ridgefield, Sherman, Shelton and Stratford residents also had outages reported.

Crews from both utility companies are working to restore power in the area, though no definitive time has been disclosed.

Showers are expected to continue until around 3 p.m. Thursday, with more storms possible. There will still be a chance for more showers through the evening. Thursday's high temperature will be in the mid-70s.
